myFirst’s Night Before Christmas Tech Setup Guide

myFirst’s Night Before Christmas Tech Setup Guide

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, you have so much to do that you’d rather check out!

Well, that might be a stretch. Christmas is filled with a lot of joy—but also a lot to do!

Here at myFirst, we all know the amount of work that goes into making the holidays happen. Finding the perfect gifts, putting up decorations, and dealing with a back-alley Elf for some high-quality Christmas magic.

It’s exhausting! The smiles of your loved ones are a well-earned result of your labors. However, there are few to be found when you’re the one doing all the planning and buying. At myFirst, we’ve all done it! We understand the desire to create the perfect Christmas (it’s impossible, but it’s the effort that counts) and the amount of genuine WORK that goes into it. December 26th can’t come soon enough!

That’s why you’re here. We can’t actually come to your house and help you cook, wrap, or tidy up. If we did show up inside your living room, you might call the police. Or would you? You haven’t done it to Santa! Hey, that’s a good idea… but we CAN help you out with inventive and fun holiday ideas and solutions.

You obviously made the right call in picking up all the sweetest myFirst tech gifts for your kids. For your oldest, you probably grabbed the Fone R2, our most advanced smartwatch. Perfect for keeping in contact with your kids. Maybe you also picked up the Carebuds MAX wireless headphones. Easy listening in any weather! myFirst’s Sketch Pro Neo was an excellent choice for your youngest. No mess and no limits to what they can create. And the Camera 10’s a one-way ticket to starting their photography journey.

If you have no idea what we’re talking about—what are you waiting for?! We wrote a whole guide about this! You won’t have to think twice about any of myFirst’s tech gifts.

Alright, assuming you’ve now got the right myFirst products for your children, nephews, and all the non-legal adults you know, you’re gonna need some help!

Christmas Morning

Depending on when you’re reading this, you might be panicking

Christmas morning comes. The light of the Christmas Day Sun bounces off the snow outside your window. The children run downstairs to see all the glorious presents Santa brought. Your kids’ faces light up when they unwrap their super cool new myFirst Camera Insta 20 . “Wow! I get to take my own pictures!?” That feeling of satisfaction sets in… You’ve done good—then they hand it to you with a cherubic grin and say, “Make it work.”

Now you’re spending 45 frustrated minutes trying to set up their Insta 20 while they play with their new Beetleborg action figure instead. Big Bad Beetleborgs, am I right? So, to avoid those Christmas morning woes and instead get you a one-way ticket to sitting on the couch with some eggnog, we’ve built this guide to cover all your device setup bases.

myFirst’s commitment to trust-centered and transparent tech for kids means that we have to make sure we’re here to assist you in getting all your devices up and running—like legally. Well, maybe not legally. But we wouldn’t be myFirst if we just sent you some cutting-edge tech for your kids and no info to help you use them!

They Can’t Do Much Inside The Box

First, you’ve got to get ‘em open!

A smartwatch being unboxed against a white background

Although our packaging is impressive, colorful, and inspiring, our devices can’t exactly be used from inside the box. You will have to take them out to proceed with getting them ready for the morning.

Your approach could be surgical. Use a fine blade to slowly remove the tape on every edge while perhaps playing some classical music. By taking such a methodical approach, you can keep every element intact. You could also just rip it open, but then you’d have to find a random box for it. Or maybe you don’t like boxes, too uniform. You like to go against the grain. So why not put it in a Ziploc bag instead?

Are you going to film it for posterity? Unboxing videos are really relaxing to watch, less so to film. All our videos feature paid stunt boxes.

You can follow along with some of our unboxing videos for a helpful guide on how to separate cardboard from other cardboard, or you can go your own way in life. Take it as it comes. Go in blind, why not? It’s an adventure! This is probably the most alone time you'll have all week.

Alright, you got it out of the box. Now what?

Questions, Questions, Questions

What’s too many cookies, and why is it 36? Oh, wrong guide sorry—

Now that you’ve got it open, hopefully without incident, you probably have a lot of questions, like:

“How do I turn this on?”

“Will my kid be mad if I keep this for myself?”

“Will my child be able to contact aliens?”(if they’re in your myFirst Circle, probably!)

That makes your next stop our FAQs! (Frequently Asked Questions)

Do you think asking what FAQs means is in itself a frequently asked question? And is there an FAQ page of only people asking what FAQ stands for, and wait, please help—

Our FAQ page is really quite thorough; we should know, we made it. It’s got literally ALL the answers you could ever ask for. Except for whatever your neighbor’s been digging up. Nobody knows that. (...is it treasure?)

Not sure where to start? The FAQ section has answers tailored to each myFirst device. Did you get your daughter the Camera 50? There’s a step-by-step guide with clear directions and images showing you how to set it up. Where the power button is. How to connect to Wi-Fi. And how to download the software update, etc. It even shows you how to pair this device with myFirst Circle, our parental-controlled safety-first social ecosystem.

New to myFirst Circle? There’s an entire section for that, too!  Click on the First Time User link, and we’ll show you how to install the myFirst Circle app on your phone and create accounts for both you and your child. Weird Uncle Phil still can’t join, though. You can always refer back to myFirst Circle FAQs for any specific questions, like how to turn off the alarm or how to delete safe zones.

Have a thought you don’t see addressed? myFirst puts YOU first with our stellar customer service. Our myFirst US INC Global Hotline  is available 24/7. Never hesitate to reach out about any hiccups you’re having setting up a product, or to inquire about an order. If you’re just looking for someone to talk to about the last movie you watched, that’s fine too. Doesn’t have to be a new one. Everyone’s gotta let at least one person know that they watched Face/Off.

You can’t forget to charge them!

You’ve come so far, don’t blow it now!

If you’ve followed all these steps, like setting up the devices with your wi-fi, downloading software, connecting to myFirst Circle, etc—it means nothing if you don’t charge the products. That’s a one-way ticket to Beetleborg bliss, and a loving yet demanding, “Make it work.”

So, please find the charging port on your devices. Our Carebuds have a USB-C port on the bottom, which is common for most of our products that don’t use batteries. However, for example,  the Fone R2 uses a magnetic charging cable that attaches to the side. Give your gadgets a nice, full charge before Christmas morning. This way, they have enough juice so that when your kids unwrap them, they can get right to tuning everyone out.

Get them Back in the Box

Ziploc has to be a last resort

Yes, we’ve now returned to the box.

Wrapping them without a box will not be nearly as impressive. Kids are smart. They’ll probably guess what it is eventually. If your method for opening was precise, almost meditative, you might have an easier time. But if you’re a regular person and not Hannibal Lecter, you probably made a bit of a mess. You can always use some tape to fix any torn corners or edges. Try your best to get all the packaging back in the way you found it. (watch one of our unboxing videos in reverse!)

Honestly, if you can't fit all the stuff inside, it’s not a huge deal. Like, if after charging the device, you’re struggling to get the cable wrapped up and back in the box. If you can, awesome! If not, don’t put it back in. Just unplug it from the wall and hide it somewhere. When the kids aren’t looking, you can always toss it in the box if they’re suspicious.

Alright, you’ve done it. Your kids’ new tech is charged, updated, and fully set up. You managed to wrap it in some manner of fashion, and it sits nicely under the tree. Now the only thing awaiting you on Christmas morning is a nice, comfy couch. Great job, parents! We’re so proud of you.

Have a wonderful, joy-filled Christmas, and we’ll see you next year!
