What Does the Word “Choppelganger” Mean?
You know that at myFirst, we’ve always got our finger on the pulse of what’s cool in the kid world. We’re practically honorary members of Gen Alpha and Gen Z. We’ve got the lingo, the culture, and the rizz (see?). And that’s why you came to us!

Of course, if they’re related to kids' tech, even better. If not, that’s alright, we’ve still got you.
But we already know what this is about…
You heard whispers of a new word the youngins are using and you’re asking yourself:

We’re way ahead of you. We’ve got all the answers you’re looking for. Well, we’re not going to tell you what a Skibidi is. You’ll just have to look that up. (If you find out, please tell me.)
Just kidding, we wrote an article about Skibidi's definition, too.
What does the word Choppelganger mean?

This might surprise you, but it does not have anything to do with salad. It’s also not a city in Czechoslovakia. Nor is it a tag team wrestler from the eighties.
It’s a new slang word, from the youths. It’s actually a combination of two different words. One of them is also current generation slang, and the other is, ya know, real.
Chopped: A separate Gen Alpha/Z slang term. Meaning ugly or messed-up looking.
“What a chopped looking GameBoy Color you have!”
Doppelganger: It essentially means someone who looks exactly like somebody else.
“That Santa Claus could be your doppelganger, Grandpa Steve!”
So, together you have this new word: Choppelganger.
Choppelganger: A person who looks like the messed-up or off-brand version of someone else.
How would you use it in a sentence?
“That guy at the DMV looked like Tom Cruise’s choppelganger!”
“My choppelganger and I are grabbing lunch, see you in a bit.”
“Everyone at this Denny’s looks like your choppelganger.”
Where did the word Choppelganger come from?
The origins of choppelganger aren’t fully clear.
There has been some discussion of a comment on a Kendrick Lamar video about doppelgangers, where someone claims they read it as “choppelganger” and, in turn, invented the word.
There is also an Urban Dictionary listing, solidifying this word as generational canon, from way back in October of 2025. Although we all know that the word has seen intense usage in the past month or so by what appears to be every eleven to twelve-year-old on Earth.
Why is it popular?
- It’s very satisfying to pronounce
- It actually means something
- "Doppelganger" always had a nice ring to it—this is even better
- Might actually be an excellent, albeit somewhat cruel, insult

If we’re being honest, we lucked out on choppelganger. Because, unlike 6-7, this slang word has an intended use and meaning. Which makes it much easier to explain.
It took a lot of work from an international team of operatives over the age of thirty to end that whole thing. A lot of brave souls gave everything to rid the world of 6-7. We spent a lot of time on that operation, and we felt it was just. However, there were repercussions.
Now, the kids are on to things like choppelganger. Which we have to admit, is pretty clever. It remains to be seen whether we here at myFirst and the parents of the world decide we need to make choppelganger stay—or go the way of the 6-7…
